Songfacts®:

  • This is the opening track of Brandy Clark's second solo album, Big Day in a Small Town. Explaining the genesis of the song, the singer offered, "When I would get worried about what people thought of me or what was going on with me, my mom would always say, 'You know, we're all the star of our daytime drama. We're just bit players in someone else's. Nobody cares that much about what's going on with you. They'll only care until there's something juicier going on with somebody else two weeks later.'"
  • Did you know the first successful daytime drama on television was Search for Tomorrow, which debuted in 1951 and ran for 35 years? The series was sponsored by Procter & Gamble, maker of many household products - hence the term "soap opera."
