Songfacts®:

  • Underneath the tough exterior, Brantley Gilbert is a softie. Here, he sings of the two most precious girls in his life: his wife Amber and daughter Braylen.
  • Gilbert married his childhood friend Amber Cochran in his hometown of Jefferson, Georgia, on June 28, 2015. They welcomed their first child, a son named Barrett Hardy-Clay Gilbert, on November 11, 2017. Amber gave birth to their daughter, Braylen Hendrix Gilbert, on September 9, 2019. On this song, he recalls Braylen's entry into this world.

Ready or not, she's on her way
Yeah, she got her momma's eyes
Well I hope she don't act like me

And how he struggles to communicate to his two girls how much he loves them.

    Just like her momma
She's got me at a loss for words
    I guess I'm still learnin'
    How to talk to girls
  • Brantley Gilbert penned the vulnerable song with Brock Berryhill, Brian Wayne Davis, Brandon Day, Chase McGill, Josh Phillips, Taylor Phillips and Michael Ray. "I started writing this one with my wife and daughter in mind," he shared when he dropped the song. "I've known Amber since we were kids. I've been married to her for 6 years now, and I'm still in awe of her. Then my daughter came along, and I realized I still struggle to find the right words to say to the girls I love."
  • Amber has been the muse for many other Gilbert songs. Other times he's sung about the love of his life include:

2011 "You Don't Know Her Like I Do" (Gilbert had an on and off relationship with Amber before they married. Here he sings about one of their breakups)

2011 "More Than Miles" (About being torn between spending time in Nashville getting his music career going and going back home to Georgia to be with Amber)

2015 "Stone Cold Sober" (About the time a teenage Gilbert drunk dialled Amber and told her how much he loves her)

2017 "Rockin' Chairs" (Gilbert wants to make the most of his times when he's with Amber, so they've got plenty of memories when they're in their rocking chairs)

2017 "Outlaw in Me " (About how Amber accepts Gilbert for who he is and doesn't try to change him)

2018 "What Happens in a Small Town" (Another song where Gilbert looks back at one of their breakups)

2019 "Bad Boy" (How he overcame his bad boy image to win Amber's heart)
  • In case you're concerned, Gilbert hasn't ignored his son in his songwriting. Back in September 2018, he wrote "Man That Hung the Moon" for Barrett and the daughter he was expecting. He tells his children he wants to a hero to them, but one day they will realize he's only human.
