Songfacts®:

  • Brantley Gilbert penned this song with Brett James and Dan Layus. The two songwriters were picking away at it, and Gilbert helped the pair complete the track after recalling a time in the mid-2000s when he called his friend Amber Cochran up after having a few drinks. "Usually when it came to her, I wouldn't do that," he told Taste of Country. "I wouldn't talk to her unless I was straight as an arrow."

In 2014 Gilbert announced his engagement to Amber Cochran. "I think everybody has drunk-dialed at one point in their life," he shared, "but looking back it's kind of crazy when you look back at the drunk dial that happened that night and you're telling somebody how much you love him and it actually ends up being true."
  • The best-known country song about drunk dialing? It has to be Lady Antebellum's crossover hit "Need You Now."
  • The Shane Drake directed video shows Gilbert cleaning up after what looks to have been a wild party as well as flashbacks to the night before. "I knew Shane could get that on film," Gilbert said. "He's done a lot of my videos, so I know he's great. But when you look at the stuff he's done for artists like Avril Lavigne and Timbaland … you see he understands those moments when the good times wash out and you're cleaning up the mess."

"In a lot of ways, that's what the song is about, too: in the mess figuring out what you said, realizing it's right and repeating it stone cold sober," he added. "It's pretty strong stuff."
