• Brent Faiyaz is known for his moody, minimalist R&B sound and emotionally guarded songwriting. His music often pairs sparse production with lyrics that explore ego, temptation, detachment, and vulnerability.
• Born Christopher Brent Wood in Columbia, Maryland, he spent time in Charlotte before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue music full time. Long before he was a streaming-era name, Faiyaz was a beat-making teenager with a USB microphone and a makeshift home studio set up in his parents' house. Local artists would literally show up at the door to buy instrumentals from him.
• He began releasing experimental material on SoundCloud and independently dropped early EPs, including Sunset Ave, Black Child and A.M. Paradox years before any mainstream breakthrough. The DIY approach became a defining part of his career model.
• In 2016, he formed the R&B trio Sonder with producers Atu and Dpat. Their debut EP, Into, introduced a sleek, atmospheric sound that earned them placements on year-end lists.
• Faiyaz's mainstream arrival came as the hook vocalist on "Crew" by GoldLink. The track went multi-platinum and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance, bringing his voice to a global audience.
• Despite the industry attention, Faiyaz built much of his career independently. After launching the Lost Kids label, he signed a joint-venture deal reportedly valued at over $50 million and later founded ISO Supremacy in partnership with UnitedMasters, maintaining significant control over his output and branding.
• Physically, Faiyaz has a lean build and typically wears braids or natural curls with subtle facial hair. His stage presence mirrors his music: controlled, reserved, and understated rather than flamboyant.
• Visually and business-wise, Faiyaz is very hands-on: he studied liner notes as a kid, built his own creative infrastructure as an adult, and keeps tight control over his image and rollouts.
