Songfacts®:

  • Eldredge closes his debut album Bring You Back with this emotional cut, which he co-wrote with Ross Copperman and Natalie Hemby. The singer told Billboard magazine that the track made quite an impact at his label home. "When we had the meeting for this album, we talked about this song. Lindsay Walleman at Warner Brothers had just passed," Eldredge explained. "She was 28, and a close friend of mine. She was one of the people who were fighting for me to get on the radio. She would wake up early and get on the phone, and stay on it late at night. It was so hard for me to see someone with such a larger than life personality leave this place. But, she was the kind of person that wouldn't want you to feel down about it. When the label heard this song, they agreed that we were finishing the album with it."

  • Michelle King from Plymouth Mi Brett my husband passed away on 2-21-2015 he loved your song Mean to me after he passed my local radio station friends at WYCD in Detroit sent me a dedication to John and played that song. I then went on to spotify to hear more of your songs and out of the blue the next song that cued up was Go on without me. It was like John was talking to me! I listen to this song everyday now on my ride to work and it makes me smile so much and gives me strength to make it through the day! John would want me to be happy and still see me smile! I am now even more lucky I get to meet you in person at the Detroit Hoedown this Friday and beyond thankful for your music! Thank you so much for writing this song after your loss.
