Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Painkillers, the debut studio album by Brian Fallon, singer/guitarist of American rock band The Gaslight Anthem. The record was produced by Butch Walker, the man at the controls for hit albums from Avril Lavigne, Pink and Panic! at the Disco.
  • Fallon explained the "Painkillers" title to HMV.com: "That came from what I think music is, it's a companion piece to your life," he said. "When people are depressed or in trouble they listen to music to feel better. To me that summed it up, it was why I got into music, it was a comforting thing, like a painkillers. Plus I wanted a one-word title that symbolizes everything and it just popped into my head one day."
