  • Bring Me the Horizon was formed at college in Sheffield in 2004. All the founding members had been a part of several local and separately defunct bands. After a few months of constant gigging they began to build a small fanbase in their local community and were signed by Thirty Days of Night Records. The label released their debut EP This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat Was Made For.
  • The band soon signed to a bigger label Visible Noise where their label mates included Lostprophets and Bullet For My Valentine. They released their debut, full-length album Count Your Blessings in October 2006.
  • Bring Me The Horizon got their name form a line in Pirates of the Caribbean. Matt Kean, who joined the group after they came up with their moniker told EastScene: "At the time there were a lot of bands that had names that you would associate with this kind of music. They just stayed away from all the pretentious or predictable stuff. And they were sitting around one day watching the movie and heard the line and thought it would be a laugh."
  • Count Your Blessings was mainly regarded as a deathcore album but BMTH have subsequently developed their sound by incorporating electronica, classical music and pop elements. Their change in style was influenced by the hairy and groovy music played by a band called Nights Like These whom they toured with in autumn 2007 in the US.
  • Oli Sykes told The Guardian that he doesn't think his family's been surprised by his choice of career. "I have ADHD and I were a nightmare as a kid. I were always jumping around and screaming anyway," he said, "so it didn't surprise them when I started listening to that kind of music. I used to scream along in my bedroom to CDs and my mum were always at the top of the stairs going: 'Will you shut up?'"
  • In 2012 keyboardist Jordan Fish was recruited by Sykes from the electronica band Worship to help change up Bring Me the Horizon's sound.
  • Oli Sykes started off his own clothing brand, Drop Dead, at the age of 21. It took off in a big way and now has a flagship store in London run by his mum, Carol.
  • Bring Me The Horizon's first album in 2006 Count Your Blessings peaked at #93 on the UK albums chart. Since then the Sheffield band have bettered their chart position with each release.

  • Oli Sykes and Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys attended the same school in Stocksbridge, Sheffield. Since then, the pair hadn't met in person until they ran into each on the European festival circuit in 2018. Turner told Sykes that he'd been watching Bring Me The Horizon videos on YouTube. Sykes felt a little nervous until Turner waved him over.

"He was like, 'I've been waiting ages for this!'" he recalled to NME, "and I was like, 'What? How do you remember me?'"
