Songfacts®:

  • The name of British Sea Power's sixth album and its title track comes from Ray Bradbury's 1964 collection of short stories The Machineries of Joy. Singer and guitarist Yan explained to The New Statesman: "I keep being drawn back to Ray Bradbury no matter how much I try and get away, and that's where the name of the album comes from. He's a very interesting fella, and he had a funny way of working as well: it was quite subconscious and things would come up and he wouldn't realize why until a lot later when it would make a lot of sense in a less factual kind of way."
  • Here's some more songs on our database inspired by Ray Bradbury's science fiction and horror stories:
    "The Body Electric" by Rush.
    "Rocket Man" by Elton John.
