Songfacts®:

  • Bros didn't want to record this originally as it was too high-energy for them. Their manager Tom Watkins co-wrote the song and originally intended to record it himself. It became Bros debut hit in the UK charts and their only American Hot 100 hit.
  • Bros were a United Kingdom boy band active in the late 1980s, consisting of the twin brothers Matt Goss and Luke Goss (hence the name), along with Craig Logan. They were originally called Caviar and then Gloss before they attracted the attention of Tom Watkins whose principal clients were the Pet Shop Boys. Watkins changed their name to Bros and signed them to CBS and for two years, 1988 and 1989, they were England's hottest group and teenage heartthrobs, scoring 8 consecutive Top 10 hits, including the chart-topping "I Owe You Nothing." At the height of their success Logan was sacked, winning a court settlement of 1 million pounds, and the brothers Goss continued touring and recording as a duo with diminishing returns. In the early 1990s the band imploded and split up amid contractual and money issues. >>>
