Songfacts®:

  • Bruce Sudano, who was Donna Summer's husband from 1980 until her death in 2012, was in the R&B group Brooklyn Dreams before becoming a solo artist. This song finds him in a reflective mood, trying to manage the mountainous burdens we face with a degree of perspective.

Sudano told Songfacts: "I wrote this song while I was in Milan. I just woke up one morning and my girlfriend was frantically running around the apartment in a rush to get dressed and get on with the day. I was just sitting there in bed watching all this action going on then right after she left, I got on a phone call with a friend and he was going on and on about all that he had to do. All he didn't have the time to do, so why bother etc... so, once I hung up with him I picked up my guitar and wrote 'The Mountain.'"
  • Sudano plays acoustic guitar on this track accompanied by Mike Visceglia on bass, Rich Mercurio on drums, Kenny White on piano and producer Steve Addabbo on electric guitar.
