Songfacts®:

  • Jim Cooper, who produced the album, wrote this song with the songwriter Kenny Lamb and Building 429 lead singer Jason Roy. It was the first single for the Christian Rock group, and it was a massive hit, going to #1 on the Christian songs chart. In our interview with Jason Roy, he said that he was just 22 when he wrote the song, and explained, "That was just a God song. I mean, God gave that to me. I was a kid. I didn't know what I was writing. I heard a sermon on the glory of God and I didn't understand it. So I went home and started writing out my thoughts on it, and next thing you know I'd written a song about the day we'll finally see glory defined, when we meet God face to face."
  • Building 429 had another #1 Christian hit in 2011 with "Where I Belong." When we asked Jason Roy what he hears from fans about "Glory Defined," he replied: "Reaction continues to be: This is the song of my life. This is my hope. What's funny about it is that 'Where I Belong' is getting very similar responses. The difference is that 'Where I Belong' for whatever reason, it is reaching a much broader crowd base. I got an e-mail yesterday through my church switchboard, and it was from a guy who said his father was 81 years old and was a huge Gaither Vocal Band fan, and he hated popular Christian music. But he heard 'Where I Belong' and it's his favorite song as he's beginning to face declining health. So it's pretty cool."
  • The song won Christian Song of the Year at BMI's 2005 Christian Awards.
