Songfacts®:

  • This song is about a journey to the year 3000 where their great-great-great-great granddaughters are "pretty fine." It references the Back To The Future movie trilogy. Guitarist James Bourne was obsessed with the films when he was a kid.
  • The lyrics were altered for the Jonas Brothers' version, which was released as a single in 2006. A reference to Michael Jackson in the Busted original was changed to Kelly Clarkson and most of the sexual innuendo was cut out. The Jonas Brothers cover was an American hit after heavy rotation of the video on The Disney Channel. >>>

  • In February 2008 Ki McPhail and Owen Doyle, two former members of Busted, went to the High Court, claiming £10 million in unpaid royalties. The pair maintained that they wrote 4 of the boy band's tracks including this one with Matt Willis and James Bourne, when the band was called The Termites. McPhail and Doyle claimed that the group's manager Richard Rashman kicked them out of the band. They also argued that he'd coerced them by "threats" and "undue pressure" into signing an agreement relinquishing their royalty rights to Bourne and Willis on the group's songs.
  • Busted's version of "Year 3000" appears in the 2015 episode of The Simpsons, "Mathlete's Feat." It plays during the sequence where Principal Skinner implements new technology in the school classrooms.
  • Busted and the Jonas Brothers performed the song together live on June 10, 2019, at Capital FM's Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium. Four years later, the bands got together to record a new version of "Year 3000" titled "Year 3000 2.0." They laid down the song for Busted's reworked greatest hits album celebrating their 20th anniversary.

  • Matt from South AustraliaBrittany, Disney is scabby and will do anything to make money. The old Disney stuff was not bad but the new stuff is about a few bitches and faggots with that annoying artificial laughter in the background when they say anything remotely clever. :)
  • Brittany from Townsville, AustraliaI dont know why jonas brothers copied it coz this song is so awsome
