Songfacts®:

  • In 2010 Scottish dance singer/producer Calvin Harris said he had given up singing to focus on producing his own dance music and remixes for other artists. His first single since his announcement sees him passing off vocal duties to American electro/R&B singer Kelis. The song was released on June 12, 2011 as a Digital download.
  • This is not the first time the pair have worked together as Harris previously remixed Kelis' single "4th of July (Fireworks)" in 2010. Despite their previous collaboration, Harris expressed surprise that the American songstress agreed to guest on this tune. He told The Daily Star: "When I wrote 'Bounce' I wanted a female voice. I thought about getting Kelis but then thought, 'Nah, she'll never do it. But after a few phone calls I was amazed that she said yes."
  • Other guest vocal contributions Kelis has made include on Basement Jaxx's "Stars," and Duran Duran's "The Man Who Stole a Leopard."
  • Harris revealed in an interview with The Daily Star that he tests his material out in the bathroom. Said the DJ/producer: "DJs don't have to worry about playing my music – because I always test my tracks a million times before they go off. On the toilet is the best listening time. Put your computer on the bathroom floor and it amplifies the sound."
  • The song's music video was shot in Las Vegas and shows a guy reacting to a bad break-up.
