Songfacts®:

  • This slice of summery trop-pop features the superstar trio of Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean. It is Harris' second collaboration with Pharrell on the Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 album. The two also collaborated on one of the record's earlier singles "Heatstroke."
  • The romantic upbeat track finds Pharrell trying to persuade a woman to let him get closer to her. "Do you mind if I steal a kiss?," he asks.

Katy Perry encourages him during the hook to give in to his feelings. "Don't be afraid to catch feels," she declares.

Big Sean lends a braggy third verse in which he tells his girl that he has cut ties with all of his ex-girlfriends, as he only wants to be with intimate with her.
  • Harris co-wrote the song with Williams, Perry, Sean, and Brittany Hazzard. The latter, who is better known as Starrah, has also co-penned tunes for Rihanna ("Needed Me") Drake ("Fake Love") and Big Sean ("No Favors".) She also co-wrote the Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 track "Heatstroke."
  • This was Calvin Harris' eighth song to reach peak position on the UK singles tally, the second-most #1s of any British male soloist. Only Cliff Richard has notched up more, having achieved 14 chart toppers.
  • The retro-tropical music video shows Harris, Williams, Perry and Big Sean lounging around on a desert island. It was shot by Enil Nava- the 13th clip he'd directed for Harris.

"The idea for 'Feels' was a real collaboration," Nava told Billboard magazine. "The two biggest things about 'Feels' was getting everyone together on that one day and to build a set that, for a long time, was in my head. We made it in this 360-degree world where the camera can see anyone and shoot everywhere. If it's exciting and electric on set, I'm a firm believer in trying to capture a feeling that you can translate to the audience on screen."
  • Calvin Harris and Katy Perry had a little reconciling to do before they collaborated on this song. The pair had feuded on social media after Harris canceled his spot on Perry's tour in 2011. Speaking about hooking up with the Scottish producer, the Canadian songstress recalled during a segment for On Air With Ryan Seacrest.

"We just bumped into each other and he said, 'I think I have a song that maybe you should come check out.' I was like, 'Cool,' because we had always meant to work together for years and years and years."

"We'd had little falling outs here and there," she added. "We'd had some public Twitter spats... Eight years or so had passed. It was time to put all that behind us."

"I came to the studio and he played me a bunch of unfinished but really solid moments for his new record," Perry continued. "Then he played me this one part for this new song called 'Feels' and I was like, 'Oh yeah.' This is like my favorite song off the record. I was just down to do it."
