Songfacts®:

  • This standalone single is the first collaboration between Calvin Harris and The Weeknd. The Canadian singer teased the slinky R&B track on August 20, 2020, via an Instagram post with him posting an old photo of the pair sharing drinks at the 2014 Coachella festival. They dropped the track a week later on August 28, 2020.
  • Harris' smooth production serves as a base for The Weeknd to croon lyrics about a failed relationship. He implores his former girlfriend to stop calling him and tells her they'll never get back together no matter how hard she tries. He insists their relationship is "over now."
  • The song may be linked to The Weeknd's After Hours album, which he released in March 2020. Many of the tracks on that project are believed to allude to The Canadian crooner's tumultuous relationship with the American model Bella Hadid, whom he dated between 2015 and 2019. Throughout that record, he's remorseful about the pain he's causing her, but struggles to let go of their romance. Now it seems he's moved on and has stopped loving his ex for good.
  • Calvin Harris and The Weeknd wrote the song with:

The Weeknd's fellow Toronto native Frank Dukes, who co-produced his After Hours track "Alone Again." Duke's other credits include Camila Cabello's "Havana" and Post Malone's "Wow" and "Circles."

Minneapolis native Doc McKinney, who co-produced much of The Weeknd's first two mixtapes, House of Balloons and Thursday. In 2011 McKinney linked up with Weeknd's Toronto associate Drake to co-write two Take Care tracks, "Crew Love" and "The Ride."

Post Malone's go-to writing partner Billy Walsh. The Canadian singer-songwriter also co-penned three of The Weeknd's Starboy tracks.

Dylan "Sir Dylan" Wiggins, who also has writing credits on tracks by Solange ("Mad') and Logic ("1-800-273-8255").
