Songfacts®:

  • Calvin Harris collaborates on this track with Frank Ocean and Migos. Ocean sings the track's first verse, choruses and outro, while Migos' Quavo and Offset deliver the second and third verses respectively - Takeoff is missing. It's the first time any of the artists involved have worked together.
  • The song was recorded at Chalice Recording Studios, Los Angeles and released on February 24, 2017.
  • "Slide" is slang for engaging in a no-strings-attached sexual act.

Do you slide on all your nights like this?
Do you try on all your nights like this? (I might)
Put some spotlight on the slide
    Whatever comes, comes too clear

Ocean is questioning the behavior of the girl wondering if she wants to slide in someone's life for their affluent lifestyle.
  • Ocean covered a similar topic on the Endless track "Slide on Me", where he sung about a girl who slid in and out of his life.
  • This was Ocean's first piece of new music since his 2016 album Blonde. He references that record's title on the first verse when he croons:

It's like we could dye our own hair
Like we could dye it all blonde, hon
    '
  • Ocean references an expensive Picasso painting during the introduction:

    I might
    Empty my bank account
And buy that boy with a pipe

Garçon à la Pipe (English: Boy with a Pipe) is an oil on canvas painting by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, completed in 1905. The rose period work depicts a good looking Parisian street boy holding a wooden pipe.

In 2004 the painting was sold at auction for a then record-breaking $104.2 million topping the $82.5 million paid for a Van Gogh in 1990. The price shocked many art critics, who considered it incongruous with the painting's actual artistic merit.
  • Calvin Harris played every instrument on the track including piano, guitar, and keyboard.
