  "Once I had a group of songs that I felt confident enough to share with an artist that I really respect and love, I DM'ed Drake and I asked him if he would want to listen and give me feedback, which is something that I haven't really done before this album," she told Complex.
  
  Drake loved the track and wanted to get involved. Two weeks later, the Canadian rapper sent Cabello an idea of his own produced by Boi-1da and Yogi.
  
  "He had this idea of a song called 'Hot Uptown,' and it just felt like I was in the city. I was in Miami," Cabello told Billboard.
  
  Cabello booked a studio that day and sent Drake her verse on the song and recorded the hook. El Guincho and Harris then chopped it so it sounded like a duet.
• The song's Caribbean-infused vibe echoes the sounds of Drake's house-inspired album Honestly, Nevermind. Cabello's lyrics offer a sweet counterpoint, exploring a space between fleeting infatuation and true devotion, even amid the temptations of summer.
