Songfacts®:

  • This was one of three new songs that Camila Cabello debuted on June 24, 2017 during her performance at Chicago's B96 Pepsi Summer Bash. It was later released as a "Summer Double Feature" along with "Havana" on August 3, 2017.
  • Camila Cabello wrote the song at the end of a series of sessions with female songwriters Noonie Bao, Charli XCX and Sasha Sloan. She explained during a Beats 1 interview:

"We're writing a bunch of emotional songs, we just kinda of wanted to write something the last day that was just fun and not really taking it too seriously. I listen to a lot of songs before I go on stage, I listen to a lot of Kendrick, 21 Savage, a lot of songs that make me feel confident and make me feel like I could kill a man. It's those songs that have bravado and swagger. I just wanted to create a song of my own, that wasn't that deep, that was just fun and confident. Also like role reversal, when we were writing it we wrote it as this girl squad anthem about just pulling up to the boys and just having that swagger."
  • The song was produced by Stargate. The Norwegian pair - Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen - are behind a slew of hits for some of the world's biggest female pop stars, including Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Shakira and Sia.
  • The track features a verse by Migos rapper Quavo in which he talks about a passionate relationship.
  • Camila Cabello told Wonderland magazine about collaborating with Charli XCX:

"She's always been so nice to me. Before I met her I think she tweeted about my song 'Bad Things' and then she expressed that she really wanted to write with me. Obviously I'm such a huge fan of her, she's an amazing writer."
