Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of the fourth studio album by the Canadian hardcore punk band Cancer Bats. The record was recorded in December 2011 and released on April 16, 2012 through Hassle Records in Europe, April 17th through Distort Entertainment in Canada and April 23 through Metal Blade Records in the United States.
  • As frontman Liam Cormier started writing the lyrics for the album, his best buddy ended up in hospital in a serious condition. The vocalist told Kerrang! magazine: "When my friend went into hospital, it derailed my positivity. It really dominated a bunch of the songs. When we were trying to think about titles for it, calling the record 'Dead Set On Living' gave it a positive spin. That's what he said when he came out of hospital.

The lyrics in that song are from conversations we had. He knows 100% that 'DSOL' is about him. I said, 'I'm writing this song about you and want to know if you're cool with that.' He had to deal with this crazy situation, and he has to change his life and he's up for that."
