  • South Carolina native Candice Glover originally auditioned for seasons 9 and 11 of American Idol but failed to make it past the preliminary rounds. She finally made it into the semi-finals of season 12 after a jazzy rendition of Alicia Keys's "Girl On Fire". Glover continued to make every song her own and her version of "Love Song" by The Cure was said by judge Randy Jackson to be one of the best American Idol performances in its history. She was eventually named as the winner on May 16, 2013 the first female champion of the show since Jordin Sparks won in 2007.
  • This empowering Jaden Michaels and Joleen Belle penned tune was chosen to be Candice Glover's debut single and coronation song. The American Idol winner told reporters that on a personal and emotional level she found it very relatable to things that she's experienced in her life.
  • Glover told Billboard magazine that when she first heard the song she found herself in tears as she could connect with the lyrics so much. She added: "It's not only about a girl who's been done wrong by her ex-boyfriend, it's also about like with me, being attacked all the time and being told that you're not good enough or you're not as pretty as you should be, just people saying horrible things to you. I think that that song is a message to everybody who ever said that to me as well as all these girls who are growing up and feeling like they're not beautiful. I think it connects with a lot of people in their hearts. So I loved it."
