Songfacts®:

  • In a 2009 interview with Russell A. Trunk, Candye Kane said "Superhero" was the first song she wrote after her cancer surgery on April 18, 2008, adding "I had 150 stitches in my abdomen and couldn't sing and could barely speak. I started strumming the guitar because I felt the vibrations from the instrument might be good for my incision." It contains the lines:

    I'm a superhero; I keep on fightin'
There's no way I'm layin' down and dyin'

Sadly, this surgery and positive mindset was only partially successful; Candye Kane died in May 2016 aged 54.
  • "Superhero" was co-written with guitarist Laura Chavez, and runs to 4 minutes 47 seconds. >>
