Songfacts®:

  • Patience is a virtue, right? Not always, and that's the point the Capital Cities duo of Sebu Simonian and Ryan Merchant are making in this song. In our interview with Simonian, he explained: "Sometimes patience can be a virtue and sometimes patience can hold you back. Life is unpredictable and everything needs to be looked at case by case. In the song, it's reflecting the feeling: Stop waiting around. Start going. Start pushing. Start moving. So, sometimes being too patient is not good for you."
  • Simonian and Merchant got together in 2008 to write music for commercials. After placing some tunes in ads for clients like Walmart and Honda, they started writing full-length songs, five of which they released on a self-titled EP in 2011 under the banner of Lazy Hooks records, which is their production company. "Patience Gets Us Nowhere Fast" was one of those songs, and like "Safe and Sound," it was included on their 2013 debut album In a Tidal Wave Of Mystery, which was released after they signed with Capitol Records in December 2012.
