Songfacts®:

  • "Like What (Freestyle)" serves as a lyrical flex where Cardi B boasts how she runs the game, living that lavish life. The Bronx rapper takes no prisoners as she spits fire at her enemies, reminding them she's the queen here.
  • Like (Like), like what?
Like a Coach bag, baby, this ain't what you want

Some fans thought Cardi was throwing shade at Coach bag lovers, but nah, Cardi cleared it up on Instagram Live. Apparently, back in high school, she rocked Coach rain boots, but stopped after Cam'ron dropped a line in the U.N.'s 2011 track "Hey Muma" about New York women not digging Coach bags. He rapped:

Still riding coach, need a coach bag
Let me coach you, no coach tags
Get rid of that coach bag

"In 2011, everybody started getting rid of their Coach s--t," Cardi explained in the video. "So, when I was [recording] the song, that's what I was thinking about. I'm not trying to be on some rich s--t and everything. This is just a real New York s--t," she added. "I'ma buy me a Coach bag tomorrow, ya hear me? I'm not tryin' to offend anybody."
  • DJ SwanQo, Sean Island, OctaneThisThatGas, and Lateef the Truthspeaker's driving beat contains a prominent sample of Missy Elliott's 1999 single "She's a Bitch," from her album Da Real World.
  • Cardi's husband, Offset, directed the video, which takes place in a futuristic mansion with circular architecture and walls of windows. Cardi switches up outfits faster than you can say "bodak yellow" as she delivers the freestyle.
  • Ski Mask the Slump God didn't hold back when he shared his thoughts on "Like What (Freestyle)" – he straight-up said it sounds like one of his tracks. The Florida rapper took to social media on March 1, 2024, and dropped a casual, "sounds kinda familiar."

His reference point? None other than his 2017 banger "Catch Me Outside," which rocks a beat similar to the one in "Like What." Just to add a twist, "Catch Me Outside" bills itself as a "remix" of Missy Elliott's "She's a Bitch."
