Songfacts®:

  • This evocation of a flamboyant Parisian character is dedicated to François Baudot, who wrote many books on fashion and style. A leading light of the gay nightlife scene in Bruni's modelling heyday, the writer committed suicide in 2009, shortly after a controversial appointment to a senior arts administration position. "He was a close friend," Bruni told UK newspaper The Sunday Telegraph, "godfather of my son. He always called me 'darling.' He left a note for me, which upset me greatly, produced feelings of guilt."
