Songfacts®:

  • Hillary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson and Troy Verges penned this song about the endless bliss of young love. Carly Pearce then handpicked their demo as her first new music following her debut album.

So what drew her to the tune? The Kentucky-born singer told The Tennessean that having recently started a relationship with fellow country star Michael Ray, she immediately latched onto its sentiment. "I think this song has a really perfect country lyric," Pearce explained. "It's the authentic raw thing of escaping with that person that you love. And with me, what I do for a living and what my significant other does for a living, I crave that."
  • The song finds Pearce reflecting on being a long way away from her lover.

Wanna taste that great wide open freedom
Wanna make the distance razor thin
Wanna feel you feel me feel you breathing
Till we can't tell where you end and where I begin

Pearce told The Boot that she readily identified with the lyrical distance due to her and Michael Ray's schedules taking them to different parts of the country. "This song really, just in every way, gave me all of the feels that I'm feeling right now," she said. "It's definitely hard to be in a long-distance relationship, but it's also really beautiful to want so badly to be with this person and to miss somebody like that, and it's exactly how I feel."
  • Filmed in Nashville by director Mason W. Dixon, the song's music video features Pearce pining for her love whom she's separated from. Interspersed are clips of the singer in her classic car stepping on the gas as she gets closer to the man she loves. By the end of the clip, Michael Ray is in the passenger seat next to her.
