  • This upbeat celebration of self-love and independence follows in the tradition of such self-care numbers as Hailee Steinfeld's "Love Myself" and Clean Bandit's "Solo."

    You don't want my love
If you don't care about me
    I'll just dance for myself
    Back on my beat
    Party for one

Jepsen explained in a press release that "Party For One" is "an anthem of what it is to celebrate time with yourself, which is a hard thing for people to really enjoy sometimes, and it's something I'm learning to do more and more."
  • Jepsen co-wrote the song with:

Julia Karlsson and Anton Rundberg who are the Swedish writing/production duo behind Galantis worldwide hit, "Runaway (U& I)".

Jepsen's guitarist, Tavish Crowe, who also co-penned the Canadian singer's best-selling single "Call Me Maybe."
  • The song was produced by Hightower and Captain Cuts. The latter production trio also contributed to the composing of Hailee Steinfeld's "Love Myself."
  • The video for "Party For One" was shot in New York City and directed by Jepsen's fellow Canadian Bardia Zeinali (Troye Sivan's "Dance To This"). The clip starts with Jepsen checking into a hotel for the night before showing scenes of other guests in the same building alone in their rooms. Each have their own way of dealing with being on their own.

Zeinali told Billboard that Jepsen visualized the clip as a play on romantic comedy movies such as Bridget Jones's Diary. She added that the singer wanted it to be a "journey that you go through in your alone time," so she started watching various rom-coms, in order to figure out the clichés that could be flipped on their head.
