Songfacts®:

  • "I'm Going To Get Lit Up (When The Lights Go Up In London)" was written by Hubert Gregg in 1940 and was the first song he ever saw published. It was used initially in an army show, in which he performed it himself, but in 1943 it was used by George Black in his revue Strike A New Note in which it was sung by Gregg's first wife, Zoe Gail.
  • In June 1949, the song was mentioned in a Parliamentary debate, but in November 1943, the London Times reported it had been banned by the Australian Broadcasting Commission on the grounds of bad taste. >>>
