Songfacts®:

  • "New Earth" is a buoyant tune with a bossa nova feel that celebrates the arrival of a new era when nature triumphs over technology.

The birds all returned to their original form
    Dinosaurs lumber down Market Street
    The junky is reborn
    It was a bad day
    Tweeting was muted all season
Now it's a glad day for the very same reason
  • Mojo magazine asked Cass McCombs if the post-apocalyptic "New Earth" suggests that it's better to burn everything down and start again. "I didn't think about it like that," he replied. "Whatever our anxiety about anything, there's always a day after the bad day. Part of me was thinking about like Waiting for Godot or something like that, trapped in this constant anticipation of the next day."
  • McCombs co-produced "New Earth" with Buddy Ross. A keyboardist and music producer, Ross has worked extensively with Frank Ocean, including serving as his musical director during live performances.
  • The folk-rock duo Chapin Sisters contribute harmony vocals. An American indie-folk duo comprising siblings Abigail and Lily Chapin, the daughters of folk musician Tom Chapin and the nieces of late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin, the sisters have also collaborated with several other artists over the years, including She & Him and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
  • Daniel Bermudez hand drew and animated the video. Bermudez also designed the logo for Heartmind.
