Songfacts®:

  • "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" was written for the 1966 musical Cabaret by composer John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb. As Ebb was Jewish, one might suppose it was intended to be anti-Nazi, but it soon became popular with anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi types; it was even recorded by Ian Stuart.
  • In the original musical, initially this is performed a cappela by a male voice choir. In the 1972 film version it is performed by a member of the Hitler Youth in an outdoor scene in which first other Nazis in uniform join in, and then ordinary people.
  • The song was also recorded, notably, by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. The anarchic Harvey used it as for title of his fifth album. >>
