Leave It Alone

Album: I And Albert (1972)

Songfacts®:

  • "Leave It Alone" is the second song from the 1972 musical I And Albert which is based on the life of Queen Victoria and her husband and consort, Prince Albert. It is performed as a duet, principally by Lewis Fiander and Polly James (as Victoria) in the original. Fiander plays Lord Melbourne (1779–1848) after whom Melbourne, Australia was named in March 1837, and where Lewis Fiander was born in 1938!

Melbourne served briefly as Prime Minister, in 1834, and then from April 1835-August 1841. Leave what alone? The world. Melbourne bequeathed to the world the dictum: "Why not let it alone?"

Like the rest of the numbers in the show, "Leave It Alone" has music by Charles Strouse (and barring one) lyrics by Lee Adams. >>>
