Album: Kiss Me, Kate (1948)

Songfacts®:

  • According to the Robert Kimball compilation The Complete Lyrics Of Cole Porter, this song from the 1948 musical Kiss Me, Kate was introduced by Patricia Morrison and Alfred Drake, and "At one time during the creation of Kate this was intended as the show's opening number."

Although it is far from Porter's best song, it is certainly not one of the worst songs ever written, but the version recorded by Zarah Leander on Elite Special/Austroton Records in 1952 was a strong contender for that title when it featured on zany DJ Kenny Everetts' World's Worst Wireless Show on London's Capital Radio in February 1977. After a public vote it was placed #2 in "The Bottom 30" behind only (or should that be ahead of?) "I Want My Baby Back." >>>
