• All the songs in the 2000 musical The Witches Of Eastwick have lyrics by John Dempsey and music by Dana P. Rowe. In their interview in the official programme for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane production, they say this along with "Fires Of Creation" was one of two for the leading man they submitted with their first batch: "One worked. One did not." This is the one that worked, and is one of the last songs in Act Two.
• So who is the man? Mick Jagger and Keith Richards answered that question in one of their classic songs, and the answer hasn't changed, although the tone most certainly has, certainly lyrics as explicit as this would not have got past the censor in 1968, in spite of the humorous tone.
  
  In 1616, "Sylvie de la Plaine confessed to having sexual relations with the Devil whose penis was "'like that of a horse, and, in penetrating, it is cold as ice, and his semen likewise cold'." - a claim that doesn't have quite the same ring to it as

  And in the former case, the audience was not reduced to laughter.
  
  Later in the song, the men of Eastwick join in, obviously unaware than one man is more man than all of them. >>
