Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from The Lady Killer: The Platinum Edition, which is the extended version of American Soul singer Cee Lo Green's third studio album. The single was released via digital download on December 11, 2011 and an alternative, cleaner version was released to radio at the same time.
  • Green wrote the song alongside Rivers Cuomo, Ross Golan, Ricky Reed and Josh Alexander. It was also co-produced by Reed, an Oakland, California rapper/songwriter/remixer, under the moniker of Wallpaper. The Weezer frontman was brought in later on during the songwriting process. Reed told MTV News: "The hook wasn't right, you know, and every song needs a great hook, so who better than Rivers Cuomo to come in and finish it up for us?"
  • The song finds Green recounting his many faults. "It's a little dark," Reed told MTV News. "In the co-write, I did a lot of the verse lyric, then Rivers came in with this really sentimental hook, which is kind of what the song needed. It needed to balance out. If there's anybody to be sentimental, it's Rivers, and if there's anyone to be f---ed up, it's me."
