Songfacts®:

  • Celestal is a French producer known for the track "Old School Romance," with vocals by the American singer Rachel Pearl. On "Voodoo," he once again teamed with Pearl, who wrote the lyric and sang on the track. Pearl told Songfacts: "The song 'Voodoo' is about the intense feelings that come with new love and infatuation. The other person is like a drug or religion. Nothing else matters, but being in the moment with them."
  • The music video stars the fashion model Justine Nicolas in a variety of exotic settings, along with scenes of a young girl putting together a voodoo doll. It was directed by Bastien Sablé, who is known for his videos for Julien Doré and Aya Nakamura, and shot in the South of France.

"We have tried to continue in the world of Celestal that mixes aesthetics (Justine, the model, is simply beautiful), the French 'chic' side, and a story always peculiar juxtaposed to the music," Sablé explained. "It was all about turning into magical places that make you want to dream and are quite diverse."

According to Sablé, there were some challenges shooting in the sand and in the water. "In the dunes and she eats several times sand because of the wind," he said. "The other moment is when she plunges into the pool. Try to swim with a dress, you'll see it's impossible."

Describing his favorite moment in the video, he said: "When she comes out of the lake which was very cold but the natural light was so beautiful and Justine also. We had all the tears of joy. We finished the day of the shooting with a strong team atmosphere."
