Songfacts®:

  • This is an uplifting midtempo song where Celine Dion declares how she feels alive, in love and embracing motherhood. It's a triumphant "I'm Back and Flying High!" after a three-year sabbatical from the music industry, which included giving birth to twins.
  • The song was crafted by the Swedish songwriting duo Kristian Lundin and Andreas Carlsson, who previously penned Dion's 1999 hit "That's The Way It Is." Lundin also took the reins on production.
  • Released in August 2002, "I'm Alive" served as the second single from Dion's sixth English album, A New Day Has Come. Lush strings by the Stockholm Session Strings add a touch of elegance.
  • Recording engineer Humberto Gatica (Barbra Streisand, Cher, Michael Bublé) reworked the song for radio airplay, and his version ultimately became the go-to choice by Epic Records.
  • The song was used in these movies:

Mune: Guardian of the Moon (2014)
HOUBA! On the Trail of the Marsupilami (202)
    Stuart Little 2 (2002)
  • Directed by Dave Meyers, the music video portrays Dion in various settings, visually reflecting the song's message and the different aspects of her life. Two versions exist – one featuring scenes directly from Stuart Little 2 and another with altered scenes that remove the character Stuart.
  • "I'm Alive" reached the Top 10 in numerous countries, topping the charts in Czech Republic, Poland and Romania.
  • In 2024, "I'm Alive" found new life on social media. This resurgence inspired North London DJ and producer Majestic and Quebec DJ The Jammin Kid to create a mashup called "Set My Heart On Fire," breathing new energy into the song.
