Songfacts®:

  • Only a handful of foreign language songs have ever made the British singles charts, and this one by French-Canadian songbird Celine Dion is a rare exception. "Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore" was written by French singer-songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman. The title translates literally as "For That You Like Me Again."
  • This was the song that first brought Dion to the attention of the British public; it received heavy play on independent radio, reaching #7 there and #6 in Ireland. In France, it topped the charts for a staggering 12 weeks and went platinum.
  • Dion recorded an English version for her 1996 album Falling Into You. The song's title, "If That's What It Takes," is shared by and entirely different song recorded by Bon Jovi. >>>

  • The word "encore" is French for "again," but in France when you want the band to return to the stage, you shout, "Bis!"

  • Serge from Montreal, QuebecActually, the real meaning of the title would be ''So that you keep on loving me''...The lyrics of the song talk about a woman and all the crazy things she'd do for her lover to keep on loving her...
  • Marcel Vossen from The NetherlandsIn The Netherlands, a dutch version of this song called 'Omdat ik zo van je hou', sung by dutch recording artist Gordon, was an equally big hit as the original version. Both songs were in the top 10 of the Dutch Top 40 at the same time for a staggering 8 weeks. Gordon's version made it to 19 weeks Top 40 with number 4 as the highest ranking, the original version by Celine Dion managed 20 weeks and got to number 3.
