Songfacts®:

  • Central Cee named "Doja" for Doja Cat, who he apparently has a crush on. After starting the first verse with an explicit reference to the American artist, the English rapper moves on to other fantasies, like having sex with a flight attendant and making a hundred million pounds.
  • During the chorus, Central Cee establishes he's straight, but his girlfriend is bisexual. He adds that as a converted Muslim, the Islam holiday Eid is important to him. Christmas is less so for the rapper and his Muslim brothers; they continue to sell drugs on the Christian holy day.
  • LiTek and WhYJay's drill beat samples Eve and Gwen Stefani's 2001 hit "Let Me Blow Ya Mind." It continues the Manchester production duo's trend for flipping nostalgic '00s hits. Other examples include their instrumentations for "Flowers (Say My Name)" (samples Sweet Female Attitude's "Flowers") and "Hello Mate" (Kyla's "Do You Mind") plus Tion Wayne's "IFTK" (La Roux's "In For The Kill").
  • Central Cee debuted "Doja" during his Wireless Festival set in Birmingham on July 9, 2022. It sent fans on fire, prompting them to repost the performance on YouTube. On the heels of his successful performance, the West London native officially released the 1-minute, 45-second track on July 21, 2022.
  • After lyrically flirting with Doja Cat on the track, Central Cee further extended his transatlantic aspirations by working with American director Cole Bennett on the video. It marked the first time that Bennett - who has filmed clips for Justin Bieber, Eminem, Juice WRLD, and others - has shot a visual for a UK artist.
  • The music video won Video Of The Year at the UK's 2022 Mobo Music Awards. Central Cee also took home the prize for Best Male Act.
