Songfacts®:

  • Chance the Rapper married his childhood sweetheart, Kirsten Corley, on March 9, 2019. His debut album, The Big Day, is a celebration of his nuptials and their shared happiness. During this smooth wedding vows tune, Chance declares his commitment to his wife.

    One thing to always remember
They here today, but we'll be together forever
  • The song features Dreamville singer Ari Lennox on the hook and additional vocals by gospel star Kierra Sheard and R&B vocal group En Vogue.
  • Cleveland-based producer TrapMoneyBenny was recruited to add finishing touches to several of the album's tracks, including "I Got You." He told Rolling Stone that even though he was brought in late in the day, there was a 2Pac filler rather than a second verse (he thinks from "How Do You Want It"). TrapMoneyBenny said it fit perfectly and "it sounded like it belonged on the song."

Chance replaced the 2Pac filler with his own second verse later.
