  • This love letter to the Chicago music and dance scene is named after the Windy City organization Wala Cam TV. Wala Cam is a platform that features various rising hip-hop and R&B artists from Chicago and the Midwest. Chance uses the program's name as the song's chorus, blending the words together in a way that also sounds like the phrase "while I can."

"I wanted to get the feeling, give people the feeling of Wala Cam without necessarily having to give them a long, drawn out history with narrative," Chance told Genius, "Just like the feel of what Wala Cam gave to Chicago."
  • The song features local Chicago rapper Supa Bwe, who previously worked with Chance on the former's 2016 cut "Fool Wit It Freestyle." Supa Bew also teamed up with Chance's brother Taylor Bennett on 2017's "Neon Lights."
  • Production on "Wala Cam" is handled by Lido, Greg Landfair and Carter Lang. Chance recalled: "Lido made the beat, and when I heard it, I was in the studio with a lot of my homies I grew up with. One of them, Zekur, Forever Band, he was like, 'This sounds like some Wala Cam s--t.' He be rappin', and he's a rapper. So I was like, 'Yo, put that s--t down on the track.' So he came in here and did that s--t, and I was like, 'That's the hottest s--t I ever heard," and then I put some verses on it. I had like 15 different verses for this song. They all were bouncing, but I just picked the ones I liked the bounce for the most, with a little bit of the words I liked the most, too."
