Songfacts®:

  • Apparently Filipino singer Charice Pempengco does not believe in always having long gaps between singles. The second release from her sophomore album was came out on April 19, 2011, one day after the release of its first single "Before It Explodes."
  • The song was co-written and co-produced by Nick Jonas. He said: "This song takes me back to when I was young, and talks about the road I took to arrive where I am today."
  • Nick Jonas told the story of the song in an interview with MTV News: "I co-wrote the song while I was in Nashville, and it's a cool song," he said. "Basically, the agency came and said, 'Hey we need a song with this lyric ['one day'] and if you could, find a way to craft it.' It was a really organic vibe that came from the songwriting session where we said, 'If we can infuse this word here, that'd be cool.'

The song just came to life then [and] working with Charice was amazing," he continued. "I flew to Boston to produce the song for her, and she was shooting a movie there, so it was kind of a fun experience. We had a great time."
  • The song premiered in an Acuvue commercial, but Nick told MTV News it's about more than just contact lenses. "It's a great campaign," he explained. "It's about following your dreams."
  • Charice shot the song's music video at a Los Angeles high school. She explained to AOL Music that the message behind the video and single is "all about reaching for your dream, no matter the odds. Ignore all the people who say you can't reach your goal and always go for it!"
