Songfacts®:

  • In his autobiography/memoirs, the English music hall star Charles Coborn said he performed this character song early on in his career dressed in a cabman's overcoat, hat and whip.

Its full title is "He Knows The Werry Number On Yer Door; Or, The London Cabby". The words were written by Alfred Morris, the music composed by S.W. Carlysle, and the sheet music was published by the London firm of Francis, Day & Hunter, copyright 1894.

It should be remembered that in those days London cabs did not run on diesel, but on hay! >>>
