Songfacts®:

  • "Talk Talk" gives us a glimpse into the early days of Charli XCX's relationship with her fiancé, George Daniel, the drummer of The 1975. The song was inspired by a specific time at the 2020 NME Awards when she wanted to approach him but felt nervous because he was surrounded by friends.
  • Charli details the excitement and frustration of their hidden connection. "We were not together, but we were definitely very into each other," she revealed on TikTok. "We were at the NME Awards, we were both sat on different tables, and we were like texting each other, but we weren't hanging out. But we were both looking over at each other – it was very like, one of us would look and the other one would look away, and then just vice versa."

"You know when you just feel like someone is watching you, you can feel a hole burning in the back of your head or something like that," Charli continued. "It was very much that moment."
  • "Talk Talk" isn't just about stolen glances; it captures the yearning as well.

I followed you to the bathroom
    But then I felt crazy

Charli reveals a moment of impulsive flirtation. When she saw George Daniel go into the bathroom, she followed him hoping they'd bump into each other and start talking rather texting. "But then I got halfway there and I was like, this is insane," Charli said, "and then I went and sat down again."
  • Charli reviewed a snippet of "Talk Talk" at the end of George Daniel's set during her Boiler Room event in Brooklyn on February 22, 2024. The show broke the record for the most RSVPs to a Boiler Room event, with over 40,000 registering to attend. She included "Talk Talk" as the fifth track on her sixth album, Brat.
  • Charli wrote "Talk Talk" with the track's producers, A.G. Cook and Hudson Mohawke.

A.G. Cook is Charli's longtime collaborator, known for his work on projects like Number 1 Angel, Pop 2, Charli and How I'm Feeling Now.

Scottish producer Hudson Mohawke collaborated with Kanye West on several of his tracks, including "Blood On The Leaves" and "FML." He's also worked with Drake ("Connect") and Travis Scott ("Telekinesis").
  • Charli XCX released a remix of "Talk Talk" featuring her pal and Sweat Tour partner Troye Sivan on September 12, 2024. The track sees Charli reimagining the original Brat version with Sivan's vocals adding a fresh dimension. Dua Lipa contributes additional bilingual vocals, kicking things off in Spanish and ending the remix in French.
