Songfacts®:

  • "Used To Know Me" is the catchy story of Charli XCX celebrating a breakup. During their relationship, he held her back, but now she's free from his control and blooming like a flower.
  • Charli XCX samples the synthesizer riff of Robin S's 1990 hit "Show Me Love." She borrows from another Europop hit, September's "Cry For You," on a second Crash track, "Beg For You."
  • Charli wrote "Used To Know Me" on her own at the Norwegian production duo Stargate's studios in Los Angeles. Stargate have written such hits as Rihanna's "Diamonds" and Katy Perry's "Firework," so writing on their premises inspired Charli to pen a big pop song. Afterwards, as she drove from the studio, Charli listened to the track on repeat and found herself singing the synth line to "Show Me Love."
