Songfacts®:

  • Don't you hate it when your metal-loving friends drop acid and suddenly turn into Deadheads? That's what happened to Richard Christy, drummer and lyricist for Charred Walls of the Damned. Growing up in Kansas, he saw his friends drop off to follow the dead, and he credits that experience with keeping him sober. "I was scared to do drugs because I never wanted to stop listening to heavy metal," he said in his Songfacts interview.

Sobriety helps in Richard's line of work. Not only is he a metal drummer, he's also a writer on the Howard Stern Show, charged with developing song parodies and wacky bits.
