Songfacts®:

  • Cheat Codes team up with Fetty Wap for this breezy, trap-influenced ode to being young. The American DJ trio said: "Fetty joining us on this song is the icing on the cake. We're label partners with him and we played a show with him in Texas a few months back. This dude always has a smile on his face, so when we originally had the demo of the song we immediately thought he'd be perfect on it."
  • Fetty Wap croons in the first verse about the glory days of his youth.

Throwing rocks at your window pane
Kiss me once and I'll float away

Cheat Codes' Trevor Dahl recalls in the second verse a teenage romance:

Remember cutting class we would smoke and chill.
It was only gym and lunch
    We thought it was real
  • Cheat Codes said in a press release the nostalgic song is their version of a John Hughes movie in song form." They explained: "Everybody loves to look back at the glory days, but being young is just a state of mind."
  • The song mirrors contemporary society's obsession with youth. "We were sitting in the studio one night and we were talking about life," Cheat Codes' Kevin Ford told Pop Crush. "If you look at youth like a diamond in the sun, then you understand that diamonds are forever. So, youth is forever."

"Now, more than ever in today's society, with the internet and social media, it's easier for people to create their own business and own destiny," his band mate Trevor Dahl added. "People make money off YouTube and Instagram. Those weren't jobs before. It's wide open. You can do anything you want in your life, and you can have fun at your job. People felt stuck before, 10, 20 years ago. That concept of 'you're as young as you feel' is really relevant to today's culture."
  • The song's music video finds Cheat Codes and some friends (including YouTube entertainer Eva Gutowski) racing motorcycles along dusty dirt roads in the hills of California. Fetty Wap appears in the clip as a projection, with his face lit up on a corrugated metal wall.

"Youth is like diamonds in the sun and diamonds are forever," Cheat Codes said in a press statement. "We had the best time with our friends making this video. It's about feeling great and living better."
