Songfacts®:

  • This campy, banjitar-led romp is one of two songs penned by Pink and her frequent collaborator Billy Mann for Cher's Closer To The Truth album. "These songs, I just loved from five seconds into them," Cher said of Pink's contributions. "She's just a great singer and she's great songwriter – she's the total package. I understood them, and when you hear them, you'll understand why I understood them. They're so personal, but they work for both of us."
  • Pink, who shares the same management as Cher, also provides backing vocals on the cut.
  • The title of the album came from a line in this song: "There's a gypsy in me that keeps on roaming, and there's an anger as I get closer to the truth."
  • Closer to the Truth debuted on the Billboard 200 at #3, Cher's highest entry as a solo artist on the album chart. The singer had previously never gone higher than #4 with her solo albums reaching that position with both Believe in 1999 and The Very Best of Cher in 2003.
