• Cher went disco in 1979 with "Take Me Home," the title track to her 15th album. It did pretty well, reaching #8 in the US to give Cher her first big hit since "Dark Lady" in 1974. Her disco phase lasted one more album, Prisoner, released later in 1979.
  
  Her heart wasn't in it. "I loved disco to dance to, but hated singing it," she told Vox in 1991.
• The lyrics aren't subtle, with Cher letting a guy in the club know exactly what she has in mind:
  
  Just a one-night affair
  Would be so fine
  
  Many disco songs are about these kind of hook-ups, but they're usually a little more subtle, perhaps offering to "ring my bell" instead of "take me home."
• Cher made a high-end music video for this song where she's wearing an elegant (if revealing) dress and dances among a parade of well-dressed suitors. MTV wasn't on the air, but Cher had lots of experience in front of a camera, having starred in three different variety shows by this point, most notably The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour from 1971-1974. The video is similar to many performances she recorded on these shows.
• The album got a lot of attention thanks to the cover, which shows Cher in a very skimpy outfit looking like some kind of warrior princess. She was already a fashion icon at this point, willing to push the envelope with outrageous looks.
• Cher sang this on her Take Me Home tour in 1979 and 1980, then mothballed it until 1999 when she became a dance diva thanks to her hit "Believe." With disco suddenly cool again, "Take Me Home" became a welcome addition to her setlists.
• The song was written by Michele Aller and Bob Esty, and produced by Esty. They also wrote two other Cher songs from this era: "Wasn't It Good" and "Hell On Wheels."
• After her disco phase ended in 1980, Cher went in a very different direction, fronting a hard rock band called Black Rose, which released their only album that year. After that, Cher turned her focus to acting before emerging in 1987 as an adult-oriented pop singer with hits like "I Found Someone" and "If I Could Turn Back Time."
• The British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor reinvigorated this song with a 2001 cover that reached #2 in the UK.
