Songfacts®:

  • Jason Scheff, the lead singer of Chicago, sang this as a tribute to his dad Jerry Scheff. Jerry was Elvis Presley's bass player and thought that he would be bigger than Elvis himself!
  • The song first appeared on Chicago's compilation album The Box in 2003, but it had been around a lot longer. It was recorded for an album called Stone Of Sisyphus that was supposed to come out in 1994 but didn't appear on 2008, with "Bigger Than Elvis" on the tracklist.
  • Jason Scheff released his solo CD Chauncy in 1997. He joined the band after Peter Cetera left. >>>

  • R.e.g.The album it was to be released on was the once "lost" album "Stone of Sisyphus", which was originally slated to be released in the '90s as the band's 22nd album. I remember watching their Live at the Greek Theater concert on PBS in the early '90s and Lamm making a comment about Chicago 22 in the works then the band played "The Pull" off the album as a preview of what we were to get that would never materialize in the '90s. But there were releases of stuff with some of the songs on it (I did pick up the 2 tape Canadian compilation "Chicago Overtime" which included "Stone of Sisyphus", "Bigger than Elvis", and "The Pull"). 2008 would see "Stone of Sisyphus released as the 32nd album instead of it's originally intended 22nd.
