Songfacts®:

  • English singer-songwriter Chloe Howl first came to attention with a trio of EPS released in 2013, featuring sassy observations on being a modern British teenager delivered over Electro-Pop beats. She signed to a recording contract with Columbia Records only weeks after finishing her exams and was shortlisted for the 2014 BRIT Awards: Critics' Choice Award eventually losing out to Sam Smith.
  • This angry, sweary tune about a feckless boyfriend was posted online by Howl as her debut single in late 2012. The teenage singer told Billboard magazine that she penned the song when she was, "16 or 17," after attending a terrible birthday party. "I had this sobering moment where I stepped back and saw everyone desperately trying to get together at the end of the night," Howl explained, "because they wouldn't have felt like the night had been a success unless they had gone off with someone. I kind of wanted to take the myth out of it, really, and so 'No Strings' came from observing that weird culture."
  • The song was included on the soundtrack for the movie Kick-Ass 2. "It's a cool one to be on," Howl told NME. "Teenage violence, teenage sex, teenage swearing."
