Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Chloe Howl's debut EP. Much of the lyrical content was inspired by school which the singer hated and describes as "like being in prison."
  • Howl sings here about the way gossip travels and becomes unquestioned truth. The teenage singer told Billboard magazine that when she wrote this song, "I was still very much going to a lot of parties with people I went to school with, still dealing with gossip at school."
  • The lyrics cast an eye on the dark power of gossip. It was only when Chlöe Howl left school that she really felt its effects. "I became a target, and I could see that when you're that age, naturally you're going to make mistakes and be a bit of an idiot, because you're trying to work out what kind of person you are," she told The Observer. "So I wanted to write a song that was like, come on guys, go easy on each other."
